Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must fulfill the following educational qualifications from a recognized university:

  • For Indian Economic Service (IES): A Post-Graduate (Master’s) degree in Economics, Applied Economics, Business Economics, or Econometrics.
  • For Indian Statistical Service (ISS): A Bachelor’s degree with Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics as a subject, OR a Master’s degree in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics.

Age Limits and Relaxations

  • Age Range: 21 to 30 years (as of August 1, 2026).
  • Born Between: Candidates must have been born not earlier than 2nd August 1996 and not later than 1st August 2005.

Age Relaxations:

  • SC/ST: 5 years relaxation.
  • OBC: 3 years relaxation.
  • PwBD: 10 years relaxation.

Salary and Benefits

Officers are appointed at Level 10 of the Pay Matrix as per the 7th CPC.

  • Basic Pay: ₹56,100 (plus Allowances).
  • In-hand Salary: Approx. ₹85,000 to ₹95,000 (depending on city of posting).
  • Benefits: Includes Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance, and comprehensive medical insurance under CGHS.

Selection Process

The selection is based on a two-tier rigorous evaluation

  1. Part I (Written Exam): Six descriptive papers totaling 1000 marks (General English, General Studies, and 4 specialized papers in Economics or Statistics).
  2. Part II (Personality Test): Candidates who clear the written cutoff will be called for an interview/viva-voce worth 200 marks.
