The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the official notification for the recruitment of Stenographer Grade ‘C’ (Group ‘B’, Non-Gazetted) and Stenographer Grade ‘D’ (Group ‘C’) posts in various Ministries, Departments, and Organizations of the Government of India.

Eligibility Criteria for SSC Stenographer Grade ‘C’ & ‘D’ Examination, 2026:

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed the 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognised Board or University as of 1st August 2026.
  • Nationality: Must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or a Person of Indian Origin (PIO) as per government guidelines.

Age Limits and Relaxations (As of 01.08.2026):

  • Stenographer Grade ‘C’: 18 to 30 years (Born between 02.08.1996 and 01.08.2008).
  • Stenographer Grade ‘D’: 18 to 27 years (Born between 02.08.1999 and 01.08.2008).
  • Relaxations:
    • SC/ST: 5 years.
    • OBC: 3 years.
    • PwBD (Unreserved): 10 years.
    • Ex-Servicemen: 3 years after deduction of military service.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Grade ‘C’: Pay Level 6 (approx. ₹35,000 – ₹45,000 monthly).
  • Grade ‘D’: Pay Level 4 (approx. ₹25,000 – ₹35,000 monthly).
  • Benefits: Includes HRA, DA, Transport Allowance, and other central government perks.

Selection Process:

  1. Computer-Based Examination (CBT): 200 MCQs covering General Intelligence & Reasoning (50), General Awareness (50), and English Language & Comprehension (100). Negative marking of 0.25 applies.
  2. Shorthand Skill Test: Qualifying test where candidates must transcribe dictations (100 wpm for Grade C; 80 wpm for Grade D).
  3. Document Verification: Final stage for candidates clearing the skill test.
